Q: Can you run a 2001 Volkswagen jetta through an automatic car wash without breaking the antenna?
I have a 2001 Jetta and a 2002 Passat and they both have the center mount attenas on the roof. Has anyone had any problems with running it through the gas station automatic car washes?
A: Jetta's, Mini's, BMW's and a lot of other cars with center mounted antennnas usually come with a small factory tool for removing the antenna. It should be in your glove box. When I worked for BMW and VW we always put these in client's cars when new. They are there specifically for this reason.
Most automatic car washes will not be a problem, however if you break the antenna, it will cost you money (most car washes have disclaimers about damaged antennas and will not cover your damage).
My advice is to be safe - not sorry and remove the antenna each time. This is what your manufacturer probably recommends. If you don't have or can't find your antenna tool, check with your dealer and tell them you never received one. They will probably give you one for free. It's easy to do and only takes a minute - just remember: "lefty loosey, righty tightey."
Q: 2001 Volkswagen Jetta Owners please help me?
I own a 2001 Volkswagen Jetta Wolfsburg edition. Its one of the nicest cars I've ever driven. However today the engine malfunctioned and cut off after I switched to 2nd gear and it wouldnt start again. Yes I know how to drive stick and every time I change gears I make sure I press the clutch all the way to the bottom. But today right before the engine cut off there was this weird and nasty grinding sound, I imagine it was the timing chain. the car is used and I know Jetta's need their timing chain changed every 65000 miles before a serious malfunction.I've only had it for one day But this is the first time it has happened to me since its the first Jetta I've ever owned and Im worried about the car, . Was the sound I heard before the car cutted off the timing chain snapping or something else ?
A: It sound like a pretty serious problem and you should definitely go to either a VW Dealership or some car shop and have them check it out. Usually they can do it for free.
Q: My 2001 Volkswagen jetta is dying when I either come to a stop or when I slow down to turn.?
The idle is really high when I slow down also. As if it is not getting any air. I have taken it to two mechanics and they have replaced hoses, and it still has not fixed it.
A: if the mechanics recommended those repairs as a fix and it was not fixed take it back to them because they are charging you for repairs that has repaired nothing and ask for your money back because of it, or contact your state BAR bureau of automotive repair and file a complaint on the shops that did the work. you will need all your paperwork that was givin to you about the problem going in before any work done and the mechanics recommendations for repair as well as any actual repairs completed with any notes about it fixed or now working appropriately.
they like directly mediate between the consumer and any repair shops that may possibly be doing a disservice to the public and will work in your behalf at no cost. as some people get taken advantage of from repair shops and actually never get the problem fixed but will take your money $$$$. all shops get very concerned if these people come into there shop and will jump thru any hoops to get them out of it. good luck " knowledge is power " and you have a little more now if you didn;t already know.
Q: What type of oil is used in a 2001 Volkswagen Jetta?
I am unsure what type of oil is used, as well as what break pads I need to purchase!
thank you
A: 5W30 full synthetic oil. Do not cheap out buy Lubri Moly. Brakes look for Textar, Jurid, Pagid, or ATE all make pads for VW. You can also go with Akebono pads the make pads for VW also but cost a little more.
Q: Why is my check engine light on in my 2001 Volkswagen Jetta GLS?
I just purchased this vehicle 2 weeks ago. The check engine light came on one day and it never goes off while drivng. I went to Autzone to have them search for a code and all it will say is fuel air, something or another. What could this possibly mean and what can I do to rectify the situation
A: If you are running low grade gasoline,ie regular unleaded;upgrade your fuel to plus gasoline. Another solution is to run regular unleaded and add a fuel additive such as LUCAS Fuel conditioner and cleaner. Lucas is in my opinion the very best fuel system and injector cleaner on the market today. My Chrysler Sebring faults out the same exact CODES.I added LUCAS on my fathers recommendation, not only did it stop the faulty code-i increased my fuel mileage by 8 miles to a gallon from 24 to 32 on the hiway!

please help it is driving me crazy! Does anyone know how to make it stop other than me sitting up all night and turning it off? It is a 2001 Jetta GLS.

Q: 2001 volkswagen jetta secondary air intake problems engine light on?
my 2001 2.0 jetta has been emitting a high pitched scream like sound from the engine which goes on and off every now and then. the engine light turned on at the same time the sound started and at around 50+ mph the car started shaking but then stopped and didnt happen again. I took it to auto zone where they did a diagnostics check and it said there was a problem with the secondary air intake the guy said to put some of that valve cleaner or something in it with the gasoline next time i fill up. did that the light came back on after 2 days but no shaking. some other factors are that weve had a cold snap in MI and temps below 0 at night for about a week straight but the engine light still came on when it warmed back up to around mid 20's if anyone could tell me what exactly is wrong and how much it would cost to fix that would be greatly appreciated.
A: the high pitch scream sounds like a defective vac
hose,or a hole in your air intake to the throttle body
or maybe the fresh air intake hose on the crankcase vent ststem.Just closely inspect all the rubber hoses under your hood,if suspect replace
it,mass airflow meters give the engine control
computer false readings if there's a leak in the duct to it.
Q: How expensive is repair for a Volkswagen Jetta 2001?
I could get a good deal on one, but I heard that Germany cars cost too much to maintain.
A: if you don't know how to work on VW, I suggest you don't purchase it !!!...2001 Jetta is on it way out especially if it has 1.8T engine, it will probabyly need valve cover gaskets and camshaft adjuster gasket, both notoriously leak oil *expensive to fix*, strut tops and bearings, vacuum pipes, door latches and windows clips, plust if it has more than 80k miles and automatic, the transmission need to be look at and etc...just name a few things...parts and labor for VW are outrages !!!...I know because I work for VW :-)
Q: I've gotten so many opinions, both positive & negative on buying a 2001 Volkswagen Jetta GLX VR6?
I can't make a decision! Is there any qualified trade person or owner who can give me an opinion?
A: Ok, here's my experience with them at the VW dealership service department level.
The VR6 is a pretty good motor, reliable enough, produces decent horsepower and might run on mid-grade gas. (For 2001, VW calls for 91 octane fuel on the turbo, V6, VR6, & V8 motors). Ok economy, but not great and needs synthenic oil for the longest engine life.
The drawback is the timing chain(s) set up; they need replacement usually by 105,000 miles or 7 years, which ever is first. It is a very expensive process to replace. Some people have been lucky enough to run a lot longer without replacing the chain(s) and tensioners, but they are a very small number indeed. If the chain breaks or jumps time, it can be a very expensive engine repair; on an older model VW, it will cost more than the car is worth. Make sure that the chain(s) has been replaced along with the tensioner and water pump on this car before buying it.
The automatic transmission has been somewhat trouble prone; have a dealership or VW specialist inspect the vehicle and run the software scan to make sure that the vehicle has all the latest updates for the ECU & transmission controls.
The other issues relate to the VW's of the same time period regardless of engine/transmission combination: window regulators are known to fail, have the inspector check to insure the updated window hasps have been installed (the can look down into the door and see it with a flashlight - no need to take the door apart); coil packs are known to fail, have the numbers checked on the coil packs to see if they have been updated (there is a recall on certain coil packs, check with the dealership on this), Electrical gremlins are known; don't purchase any vehicle that has had front end damage, especially near the battery box. Many times electrical ground circuits aren't repaired properly and odd electrical problems can be traced to ground circuit faults.
2001 was a year of updates to the Jetta/Golf/New Beetle. It is true that many electrical and mechanical problems had occured on earlier model years, but if the vehicle you're considering has been maintained according to VW specifications with the correct fluids and has had the recalls and updates performed, it can be a good reliable vehicle. It is important that you obtain the service history for the car; a service file is a huge plus, (on a turbo model its a must: don't buy a turbo model without a service history!). A jetta GLX is a comfortable, safe, sporty handling vehicle with decent performance and uncommon safety features.
I hope this helps you, a car nut.
