Q: How to access 1993 Toyota Tercel trunk, I have a broken lock and no rear seat access.?
Hi, Please help me access my 1993 Toyota Tercel trunk, I have a punched out lock and can't access the trunk through the back seat. Thanks! Michael The lock has been punched out and there is no slot visible in the empty hole. I can see the other side of the trunk lid through the hole, nothing else. Help!

A: Probably because a rod goes from the lock down to the latch. Seriously, even on sedans you should be able to remove the back seat lower base and then the seat back and reach through with a long socket and extension and get to the latch to unbolt it and release the deck lid or release the pull rod. You may also be able to fish around with a coat hanger wire through your punched-out lock hole and grab the pull rod for the latch and open it that way. If this is just a beater car, you can just bend a coat hanger into a pull mechanism and let it dangle outside the hole for future use. I had a banged-up 1987 Tercel sedan and did that. Called the car the "UBV" Urban Battle Vehicle... Hope this helped. Jim

On my 1983 Toyota Tercel, the speedometer doesn't work until 35 MPH. Before 35 the needle just bounces up and down. Is this fixable or do I have to replace it? If replaceable, how much would a new one cost, and how easy is it to replace? Thanks!

A: Do you know if the speedo is cable driven or is the vehicle equipped with a speed sensor on the transmission? If it's cable, you're in luck, you can replace the cables separately and is much cheaper. If it's electronic, the instrument cluster/guage is the likely culprit.

A: Do you have the mechanical history/maintenance done to the vehicle ?? That would help a lot. The valve noise is indication of needing the valves replaced or reground aka a "valve job". Usually when a car needs that, it's better to just get a rebuilt motor, as other things will go bad besides the valves

I have a 1995 Toyota Tercel with less than 70,000 miles on it. I've put at least $3,000 of repairs in it since I got it three years ago. It has two year old tires and runs ok but has been overheating when I idle. After getting that fixed...do you think it will last me my commute to school everyday for a year which is about 32 minutes of highway commute each way? Thanks!

A: When a small older car goes on the freeway you put more stress on the engine causing it to over heat. Lets say that you have a good runing toyota camry 1995. a bigger car has a bigger engine that can take more stress. if your car is running okay then it can go on the freeway it will not be as powerful if you turn on the A/C put a lot of stress on the engine when on the freeway or city which result in more often overheating

A: if i remember right you have 2 10mm bolts to remove,to remove the whole lens,then from there you just twitst the old one out,it could be 2 bolts on the outside or 2 inside the trunk i forget,ether way you will need to open the trunk,if there are 2 outside there will be on the side when you open the trunk,if its 2 inside,you will need to pry apart the carpet(clis to remove for that) and get to the 10mm nut from there,,after that it will be tought but you have to pry the lens off ,

well the motor of the Paseo is good the thing is the transmission got messed up. but I have read in many places that the Paseo motor is a perfect swap only the wiring harness ends dont match up but other than that its a perfect swap. so does that also mean that the transmission of the Tercel will directly fit the Paseo motor or what?

A: The Paseo is essentially a Tercel with different styling, so yes, it will fit.

Q: Can the Toyota Tercel driver's seat go back any further?

Because of this, places charge a lot more than a 1992 Tercel is worth to do this kind of work.
