Q: Can I program a spare key for our 2005 Toyota Tacoma without dealer help?
We have lost one of the keyrings for our truck, and also I would like to have a spare or two around anyway, just in case.
It is a 2005 Tacoma, it has the remote unlock keyfob which is nice, but not necessary really.
I see I can purchase replacement keys online, but they need to be programmed to match the truck.
Can anyone tell me how to do it?
A: I need to know if it is a black or grey key you are trying to program, and make sure that you have a black key to program from. If you are programming a black key from a black key, do this:
1. Insert old black key into ignition. LEAVE THE IGNITION OFF THE ENTIRE TIME.
2. Pump the gas five times
3. Pump brake six times.
4. Remove old black key from ignition.
5. Put new black key in ignition.
6. Pump gas one time.
7. Let the truck sit like that until the security light quits blinking.
If it is a grey key, do exactly the same, but pump gas 4 times and brake 5 times.
If you do not have a black key to start with, you cannot program it. You cannot add a key yourself if you only have a sub (valet) key. It can be done, but the dealer has to erase all the old keys and start over.

I have a 2005 Toyota Tacoma two door (there are two seats in the back it just opens up from the inside. Im thinking of getting subs put in my truck I ideally would want two 12" ones. Is this realistic? If so where could i put them? Ideas?

67k miles, just had an oil change and tightened gas cap. the light blinks only 6 times immediately after turning on the engine, then turns off. any ideas??
A: hook it up to an obd II sensor.. if the check engine light is on, it should come up on the sensor as a particular code.. usually a blinking check engine light is not very good, but i am not sure why it would only blink 6 times and then disappear.
Q: 2005 toyota tacoma xrunner squeaking and grinding in mid shift from 2nd to 3rd and 3rd to 4th?
the squeaking noise is the throw out bearing but what about the grindage during shifting. it happens 100% of the time when shifting in high rpms. and about 50% of the time in low rpms. whats the least expensive way to fix this. new clutch kit is out of the question.

The tacoma would have a double cab 4x4 4.0L engine with the short bed, and the f-250 would have a crew cab 4x4 7.3L diesel with the short bed.
A: the diesel will give you a lot of power and decent fuel economy. Keep in mind that you may loose any fuel saving on maintaining it though. Diesels are reliable but very expensive to fix.
Q: how to disconnect Battery Cable from Toyota Tacoma 2005?
I need to change my battery cable from my mentioned truck. Just by looking from the top I can see the Battery Cable going out of my view into the Starter. Anyone know how to change the cable or might know a site with images/videos on doing this task?
A: Positive will go from battery to starter, can usually be accessed very easily from underneath truck.
Negative should go straight to chassis.
Real easy to fix, if anything like the older trucks you should be able to remove it(or anything else on the truck) with a 10mm, 12mm, or 14mm wrench.

A: If you want to self educate, the best way is to buy one of the repair maintainence manual for the year and model of your truck. It shows some pictures and descriptions of tools and parts you need. It shows you many other maintences and troubleshooting method. It is very educational.
That is exactly the way I learn to change the spark plugs on my corolla. I did it less than 15 bucks for part cost. If I do it in a shop, it cost me at least 40. I got quoted for 40 to 50 ish.
Anyway, the cost of the repair manual range from teens to mid 30 dollars. Check ebay or online book stores.
Please note though, for changing the spark plugs, you should be able to find the recommended manufacture and the part number under the bottom side of the hood cover. To be very safe, you may want to take note on that.
