Q: How long will Pontiac be making parts for their cars?
I'm interested in purchasing a Pontiac Vibe but I'm concerned about maintenance down the road as far as parts availability. Can anyone link me or tell me more about how GM is handling Pontiac and it's products? So far all I've read are conflicting hearsay statements. Also, I've been reading that the Vibe is basically the same as a Toyota Matrix, does that mean the parts are interchangeable?

A: Don't worry. Toyota still makes parts for those. (it's a Toyota Matrix) The only parts NOT interchangeable are a few body panels and the name badges. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pontiac_Vibe

Q: What year pontiac fiero can I use to make a lamborghini kit car?
I want to use a pontiac fiero to make a lambo kit car but I'm not sure what year of a fiero I can use. Please let me know anything that will help out thanks for reading.

A: You can use any model year Fiero to do it however you will get the best vehicle out of an 88 GT mod as it will have the improved Lotus suspension.

Q: How many miles would a 1997 Pontiac Sunfire typically last?
I am thinking about buying a '97 Pontiac Sunfire, but it already has 150,000 miles on it, and I don't know if I should just save my money for something that has quite a few less, or go for it. Apparently the gasket was just changed and has been kept up to date on maintenance. Help?

A: All depends on how it's cared for, i have a 99 Chevy Cavalier 2.2L 5 sp manual, with 205,689 miles Original everything minus a new valve cover gasket and most other normal wear and tear parts... but it runs great, does not burn oil, everything works fine... FYI, the Sunfire and Cavalier are the same car... same engine/trans built by GM... So take care of the normal maintenance and normal wear and tear and i say your good to go. best wishes!

Q: What is the difference between a 1968 Pontiac LeMans and GTO?
What is the difference between a 1968 Pontiac Le Mans and GTO? I know (or at least I think I know) that the hood, front bumper, and engine(V8) are differnet but is there more? O ya im 13 and I'm trying to find my first vehicle and i found a 1968 Le Mans GTO clone and thats why I needed the difference. Any bit of information would be helpful. Thanks.

A: It's the same car with different amenities as you pointed out in your question. Basically LeMans was more of an everyday kind of car and had more creature comforts & convenience options. The GTO was a high performance sport version usually with a 389-400 V8 engines and a very basic interior. My advice to you is to learn as much about this car as possible especially the vin numbers, so you can tell if the car has it's original engine and transmission and whether or not the car is a Tempest, LeMans, or GTO. There are decoding books that can help you decipher the vin numbers.

Q: What type of oil does a 1976 pontiac ventura take?
I've recently has to drive a 1976 pontiac ventura and I just wanted to know what type of oil is best for it.

A: 10w30 is overall the best kind of oil to but in just about any kind of car. Unless your running it in the winter, then 5w30 would be the best route to go. But that kind of car shouldnt see the winter air.

Q: Is my pontiac going to be more expensive to maintain since pontiac is going out of business?
It's official now, Pontiac is dead. So what does that mean for us Pontiac owners/lovers? Are parts going to skyrocket? How does this affect us?

A: my guess would be no since pontiac was never really independent its just a brach of General motors so even if they get phased out completely that has nothing to do with replacement parts gm will still make replacement parts for them and im sure autozone ect ect will still sell parts for them and most mechanics that dont work in a dealership wont even notice a change and they could never justify charging the same to fix a pontiac as to fix a bmw.... how did you come to the conclusion it would cost more???

Q: How to replace the ac compressor on a 1997 pontiac grand prix?
Hello friends. I believe that I will be replacing the air compressor in my 1997 pontiac grand gtp (3.8 super charged). Does anyone know how or of a diagram I can look up to see how to do it? Also if any one knows a good place to get a compressor for a good price that would be great too. So far the going rate is $300. Thanks

A: You evacuate the system with a refrigerant pump, unhook the drive belt, unhook the pressure hoses, unhook the compressor clutch wire, and unbolt the compressor from the engine. The going rate is in fact $300. When installing the new one find out if you need to add oil to the compressor (make sure you add the stuff for R134) and how much. Replace the O-rings in the system while you've got it apart and evacuate and recharge using an A/C service machine or a manifold.

Q: How much would it cost to paint a 1997 Pontiac sunfire?
I have a 1997 Pontiac sunfire that I would like to get painted. I'm thinking of just a solid color. I was wondering if it is worth going to MAACO. I've heard good and bad things. I don't necessarily need the highest quality job, I simply want a new color, but not a huge price tag.

A: I f you just need a decent job, and need to save money, they're a good place to go. Of course the results will vary at every different shop of theirs, they are staffed by different people. Many complaints about cheap paint jobs are made by people paying $600, and expecting a $1,200 job.

Q: Since Pontiac will shortly become a defunct brand, will parts and repair for them become more expensive?
I'm strongly considering a Pontiac G8 GT as a car I want to buy after High School since I only have one more year to go. Im just worried that since Gm will stop making Pontiac's after 2010 the parts and repair will become really expensive, what do you guys think? This is just what I think, will this happen?

A: No, parts prices and repairs won't be any more expensive.

Q: How does a 2WD Pontiac Aztek drive in bad conditions?
How does a 2WD Pontiac Aztek drive in bad conditions? Frankly i think AWD should have been on ALL the Azteks made, as they are supposed to be the ALL AROUND sport vehicle. Anyway i would like to know how A 2WD model drives in snow/ice/rain- basically in bad driving conditions. The model i'm looking at dosn't have Traction Control either. If anyone has personal experience with a 2WD Aztek driving in bad conditions i would like to hear it. Thanks.

A: It will handle just like any other front wheel drive car. Pretty good with regular all season tires, much better with winter tires. I have a friend with a GM minivan (same chassis as Aztek), they tell me it's a good winter car. If you drive in bad weather much, put winter tires on your car whether it's 2wd or awd, because which wheels are driven won't help you stop, and that's when most people have accidents, because they can't stop, not because they can't go.

Q: Will a Pontiac supercharger work in a camaro?
I have a 1999 V6 Camaro with a 3.8L 3800 Series II engine. The 1997 Pontiac GTP has the same engine but it is supercharged. Will the Pontiac supercharger fit my camaro?

A: in my guesstimate the answer is yes it will fit - and yes it will even "work" with a tremendous amount of effort - on alot of peoples part. If you think that its a matter of "bolting" the supercharger on your engine and driving off - you are wrong. Every component that controls the functioning of that supercharger has to be included in the "bolt-on" process. Your ecu won't handle positive map sensor readings - so it has to be swapped. The fuel system- pump ,injectors, rail and controls need to be swapped. You need to either be full of time , money or both. Good luck and happy motoring.
