Q: Is a 1981 Jeep Wagoneer a generally reliable vehicle?
Im thinking about buying a 1981 Jeep Wagoneer. The only concern I have is if the vehicle will hold up.
A: nobody can really answer that question without looking at the car. It's now technically an antique. You should have it taken to a garage and have em give it a once over and tell you what they think. Take into consideration;
1. How's the frame, if the frame is rusted out the vehicle is junk unless you wanna do an expensive rebuild
2. What's the mileage? 200,000 is certainly not what you're looking for.
3. Was it kept up? Previous owner good about maintenance? Regular oil changes?
4. At what point are you going to have to put some more serious money into this car. When you get into a car this old, it's always going to need work done. If you love the car and it's pretty solid, go for it, but it's going to always need work and finding parts might not always be easy for a car that's almost 30 years old, but jeeps are usually not as hard.
Q: How much gas does a Jeep Grand Wagoneer use?
Im looking to purchase either a 70's, 80's or 90's model jeep grand wagoneer- and i need to know what the average gas usage is?
Any other details you have on Jeep grand wagoneers is welcome, thanks!
A: Looks like between 15-16 for a 1985 grand wagoneer. This is the link to the fuel economy.gov page. You can research most mileage on this site.

Q: Where can I find Jeep Wagoneer chrome window trim?
Does anyone know where I can get Wagoneer chrome trim (windows and body)? Cherokees don't have the side window chrome and it's nearly impossible to find a Wagoneer in junk yards around where I live.
Thanks!
A: Unfortunately XJ Wagoneer parts are getting very hard to come by. Your best bet is to find a complete truck and get the parts you want and sell the rest.
If you come across a couple of good tail lights let me know.

Q: What are the average yearly maintenace costs for a 1987-1988 Jeep Wagoneer?
I've always wanted one but am very ignorant about the vehicles. Is there anything I should keep my eye on when looking to buy one? Are they always in 4x4 mode? The one I've got my eye on has been sitting for 3 years. Will it need a complete overhaul? Are they easy to work on? Etc.
Thanks to anyone who can help.
A: that all depends on the car. How well was it maintained, how many miles, and just overall health of the car. It's definitely going to require attention a lot, on a car that old you're going to be constantly fixing things. As long as the major things like the frame, engine, transmission and cab are in pretty good condition, then it might be worth it. This is the price for having an older car that you've always wanted. I have a 97 jeep that i love and always working on because at the age of 13 everything in it has reached the end of the typical life expectancy so I'm always fixing this and that, but i don't care because I'll do almost anything to keep my favorite ride on the road. Also because the car you want is a little older than even mine there is a chance that someone could have rebuilt it completely. This means it's going to cost a lot, but if someone stripped it down and completely rebuild the jeep it give it a whole new life. Good luck, and the best decision I've ever made was to buy the car that I loved and made driving even errands fun.
Q: What is the OEM Stereo in a 1983 Jeep Wagoneer Limited?

Q: put a new fuel pump in 1989 jeep wagoneer still will not start where is the fuse?
A: the fuse for that is located under the hood you will see a black box about 2x5 some where near the battery that might say on it aux fuse or fuse relays the fuse will be a block about 1x1 i belive but that is were you should look for that particular fuse.
Q: My Jeep Wagoneer won't start. It just makes a single clunk noise. What could the problem be?
I've replaced the alternator, starter, solenoid, battery and cables, and a little more. It just died on me one day while driving and now won't start.
A: It sounds like your starter. I know you said you just replaced it, but you could have a faulty starter. The starter should be turning even if the car doesn't start. The solenoid will engage the starter drive with the flywheel , but unless the motor is seized, it will still turn. Put a socket on the flywheel and use a breaker bar to try to rotate the crankshaft clockwise, this will determine if the motor is seized. Otherwise pull your starter and have it bench tested where you bought it. You probably just need to replace your starter/solenoid assembly. One more thing! Is the battery any good? The battery has to be pushing enough amperage to turn the starter. Check the battery first, and it's connections.
Q: Where is the O2 sensor located on an 1985 Jeep Wagoneer?
I cant find one from the catalytic converter to the tail pipes, nor can I find one from the headers to the catalytic converter. Btw the Engine is v6 2.8L
A: to find the O2 look at the exhaust system and look for wires that go to any part connected to the exhaust pipe.
Q: What is a good website to sell my Jeep Wagoneer on and quickly?
A: I have used autotrader.com every time I have sold my cars and it has always worked out well.
Q: What should I pay for a 88 Jeep Grand Wagoneer on lien sale, its in near perfect condition?
The reason for it being at tow yard was the person did not have a driver license or have insurance for it. Is gray metalliac with wood paneling that seems to be new.
A: Well geographic region play a part in value. Where I live in N. Ca. , esp. with a bad economy, MAYBE 1500-2k if its really cherry. 800-1000 bucks for a nice one.
That's a pretty good jeep, good luck!~Dan
Q: How can I hotwire my 1987 Jeep Wagoneer?
My roommate lost the keys to my truck several weeks ago and I'm trying to get it started. It's been sitting, broken down, in our driveway for about 8 months now and I'm ready to get it running again, but now...no keys!
Also, who is a bigger loser? My roommate for losing my keys, or me for having my vehicle stuck in the driveway for most of a year (it's my only personal mode of transportation)?
A: you can call a dealership. they can get you a new key. i know for newer cars you have a code written with all your information that tells them what key to order. or you can call a locksmith. they should be able to do it for you.
