Q: would a missing air pump on the 1996 ford f150 affect its power?
I just bought a 1996 ford f150 p/u, it is missing its air pump and am wondering if that is the reason that it has little power and is hard to start.
A: I don't think so..Cause a production vehicle doesn't have what another one has...Doesn't mean it came with one... My 88 Ranger doesn't have an egr valve but There are some out there with one on it... I would give it a complete tune up and see if that helps your power and starting issues...
Q: how many miles on a 1996 ford f150 is to much?
im looking to buy a 1996 ford f150 but i dont want to buy one that has to many miles, can someone tell me what a good amount is. thanks.
A: It's not the miles, it's the maintenance.
A truck with no maitenance -- 100K is too much.
A truck with impeccable maintenance by a REPUTABLE place (WalMart, Pep Boys, Easylube does not qualify), -- 1,000K may be too much.
Ask for maintenance records. Look for a clean engine bay, crisp interior and a brake pedal that isn't worn out.
Q: what all do i have to change when i put on a 4 inch suspension lift on my 1996 ford f150 eddie bauer supercab?
i have a 1996 ford f150 eddie bauer editon supercab and was wondering what all i have to change when i put on a 4 inch suspension lift kit?
A: your front coil springs, radius arms(or drop brackets for the stock ones), pitman arm, axle pivot brackets (last year of TTB front end on F150) all 4 shocks, rear can be either complete replacement leaf springs, add-a-leaf, or blocks. That should be everything, which will come with the kit (some don't come with shocks, but most do)
Q: What is the stock wheel size on a 1996 Ford F150 two wheel drive? Does anyone know where I can find 4?
I think they are 15x7.5 and bolt pattern of 5x5.5 , but not sure. Does anyone know where I could find a set of four? Painted metal with center caps or alloys.
A: 16 inches
Q: How do I remove the computer on a 1996 F150 Ford truck? I know it connects under the parking break mount.?
Ford wants to charge me $200 for labor, this seems like a lot for the job.
A: If I remember correctly the Harness Connector to the computer Unbolts from under the hood on the driver side.
The computers housing is attached to the cab body under the inner kick pannel in the cab (driverside).
You can swap it out yourself easily.
Do yourself a favor and buy some Di-electric grease to put on the connector and pins before reasembly. It will also help moisture proof the connection.

Q: I need help on how to repair a front pump seal on my 1996 Ford F150. Please if anyone knows and can assist me?
I am a plumbing contractor not a mechanic, although since buying my truck, I'm having to learn!! I am now stuck in the mountains and need to get home to my family. So if anyone can lend a hand in assisting me to fix my tranny it would be the salt of the earth in terms of my gratitude. Please!! I'm a pretty good student! Thank you
A: Replacement of the front pump seal will require that you completely remove the transmission from the vehicle. Start by removing the drive shaft. You will remove the bolts in the rear that hod the U-joint, and then pull the drive shaft free.
Disconnect the battery and remove the starter.
Remove the cover on the bottom of the bell housing, and remove the bolts that hold the torque converter. You will have to turn the motor with a socket and breaker bar to get to these bolts. disconnect any electrical connections and vacuum lines.
Support the transmission with a transmission jack. Take the transmission support cross member free. Remove the bolts that hold the bell housing to the engine. Slide the transmission back towards the rear of the vehicle and lower it.
Remove the torque converter from the transmission by pulling it free. You now can get to the pump seal which is around the shaft. Gently pry the old seal out, and replace it. Tap the new seal into place gently.
Reverse the procedure to reinstall the transmission.
This is not an easy job. A trained mechanic in a fully equipped shop could most likely do it in 6 hours or so. It may take you much more time, especially if you are only using hand tools and do not have a lift.
Q: How much would it cost to install a air ride system on my 1996 ford f150?

Q: Where is the "dummy you left your lights on" buzzer in a 1996 F150 Ford truck?
I need to put in a new one!
A: Not all of them had one, and some that did weren't installed by the factory.
Best place to find out is at the dealer.
OR, you can purchase a buzzer/chime element at Radio Shack, and install it across the headlight circuit (+) and an ignition circuit (e.g. coil) with the (-). That way, when the headlights are on and the key is off, the chime gets its ground from the ignition coil. When the ignition is on, there is power at both sides of the chime, and it won't energize. It is like placing both wires on the same circuit.
