Q: how do i install glasspacks on my 2001 chevy silverado and then run another pipe to have dual exhaust?
i have a 2001 chevy silverado with stock exhaust coming out behind the right rear tire and i want to put glasspacks on and run another pipe to make dual exhaust coming out the back and put chrome 4 inch tips. and i want my truck to be loud but not like blasting ear drum busting
A: get a cat back kit with the torpedo muffler, if you want it loud.
most independent muffler shops(not a chain shop) will install them for under $300 complete but keep your stock system in case you want to put it back on before you trade your truck in.
Q: Have you had a problem with the fuel gauge on a 2001 Chevy Silverado??
My husbands fuel gauge on our 2001 Silverado 1500 is acting crazy. It started a few weeks ago. We have since replaced the fuel pump. The gauge goes to full and then down to empty. The mechanic thinks it might be a wiring problem. Do you have any suggestions??? We also are showing an evap code on the computer. Thanks for the help.
A: the fingers on the fuel level sensor resistor may be damaged
also the evap code is probably a vent code. it isn't very often that those have a fuel gauge problem with the problem being the gauge itself
Q: I have a 2001 chevy silverado, V6, extended cab?
I own a 2001 chevy silverado truck and the heater and AC only work on the high setting or the # 5 setting on the control switch. The fuses look fine and I even replaced the fuse that controls this and it didn't help. Could it be a relay or something else? If so. Can I do this myself or take it in? Thanks a lot.
A: blower motor resister is bad located close to motor on firewall
Q: how many quarts of oil does my 2001 chevy silverado hold?
i have a 2001 silverado with a 327 v8, i put 5 qts and says i need to check engine oil level
A: 6 + how ever much u spill
Q: 2001 Chevy Silverado makes whining noise when accelerating, not in park any suggestions on where to start?Thx?
The noise happens during acceleration not during rest or when the truck is in park. The whining noise is a low pitch noise and sounds almost like a when you have power steering issues, but the power steering is just fine. Any point to start at would be helpful, thanks.
A: normal transmission whine.. If its an automatic (should be) have the tranny fluid swapped/checked.. might just be running low.
could be the gearbox as well, but I doubt it.
Q: Whats the best exhaust system for horsepower on a 2001 chevy silverado?
I have an 01 silverado with a flowmaster exhaust. The exhaust sounds real good, but people keep telling me its not the best for horsepower. Some people have mentioned Magnaflow and Borla to me, but I would like to know witch one is best for my truck.
A: If you're not running headers, then your muffler really doesn't matter when it comes to horsepower. A lot of people like magnaflow and borla, but the hp gain over a set of good ol' flows is minimal at best, it's more personal preference than anything.
If you still have catalytic converters, your choice of muffler is even less important. If all you want is a good, deep sound i'd stick with the flows (40 series, of course!), if you want any serious hp gains you need to put on a good set of headers (I reccomend pacesetter long tubes) and either remove or replace the catalytic converters with high flow units, then you can get choosy with a muffler.
Q: How do you turn off a car alarm on a 2001 chevy silverado if you have lost the keyless remote?
my fiance's keyless remote pad for his truck broke off his keyring. now we cant find it anywhere.
he still has the keys to his truck so he can get in and start it, drive it, anything-- the only problem is the alarm still will not stop going off no matter what!!!
please please if anyone knows how to stop this please let me know. we're going crazy trying to get this to work. thanks.
A: First lock all your doors. Open your drivers side door with your key. It should start now. If that don't work then disconnect your battery leave your window down or the dooor open. turn your key to start and leave it there. reconnect your battery and it should start. I hope this will work
Q: How do you fold the seat down on a 2001 chevy silverado?
I lifted up the bottom back seat and now I can't get it back down.
A: Push seat bottom all the way back then pull on release strap
Q: How do i disconnect the wires from the radio of my 2001 Chevy Silverado?
i got the radio to slide out but i cannot get the plugs to come loose...is there some hidden screw somewhere?
A: The harness has tabs that you have to squeeze and pull at the same time. It's not too hard. There are no screws. The antenna wire is usually the hardest but that just pulls out too.
Q: How do you fix the parking break on 2001 Chevy Silverado?
I was told that there's is no easy/cheap fix on the parking break as it was a design issue. I thought I'd ask some more... Thanks.
A: matters what's wrong.
If it has frozen cable(s), they need to be replaced. The rear ones require taking the drum off and the rear shoe as well as any mounts at axle housing, etc...
The front requires routing to the foot activator in cab. If it is the activator ratchet the assembly needs to be R & Red.
Whatever you need to do, make sure the rear brakes are adjusted properly prior to adjusting the cables. You can get aftermarket cables for around 40 bucks (rear) and it depends on labor. The actuator is OEM.
Also, if the brake assembly is not installed correctly, this can effect the parkign brake. The strut and armeture and self adjuster cable must be correct. There is a guide that inserts into a hole in the shoe backing plate, and the retention spring goes through the guide and shoe plate. If this isn't done right, the guide can be cocked and the adjuster cable will get pinched behind it or fall off chewing up the drum surface and shoe lining as well.
Good luck.
Q: The oil pressure guage on your 2001 chevy silverado drops to zero, what could be the problem?
When Im driving the oil pressure starts gradually dropping to zero. i pull over and turn engine off and wait about 5 min and restart and it goes back up to 40. Is this from the guage or oil pressure sensor or oil pump?
When Im driving the oil pressure starts gradually dropping to zero. i pull over and turn engine off and wait about 5 min and restart and it goes back up to 40. Is this from the guage or oil pressure sensor or oil pump? Checked the oil no problem there . the truck has 172,000 miles. I heard a noise from the engine 1st time it happened. its happened twice 2nd time didnt hear anything
A: Oil level, pressure sensor and pressure relief valve, blocked oil lines and/or galleries, worn out oil pump. Could even be a blocked oil filter. Change your oil and filter first - it's pretty cheap - then start looking at the pressure relief valve, then the sensor, then the oil pump.
Be careful - you should have at least (it varies from make to make) 15lb of oil pressure at idle, and somewhere around 40 to 60 lb while driving, depending on your engine. Don't let it drop so low before shutting the engine off, or you'll really so some significant damage.
Good luck!
Q: 2001 Chevy Silverado loud squeel coming from the back?
It's most noticable during low speed. It seems to come from the center of the truck towards the back of the vehicle, not from the engine. It may be the u-joint, if so how much would that cost to repair?
It only does it when accelerating, and the squeel gets faster as you go faster.
A: u joints usually make a banging sound, not a squeal. Take it to an oil change place and have them check the fluid levels in the differential.
Q: I have a 2001 Chevy Silverado and hear a squeeling sound from the rear even when I'm not braking? Any ideas?
The squeeling sound gets louder as I brake but the sound is still there even when im driving along and not braking. It's not constant but it's pretty regular.
A: if your truck is equipped with disc brakes on the rear you need to replace the brake pads. they do not squeal like front pads (only when pedal is depressed) they will squeal all the time due to the redesign of the calliper.
Q: how do i make my 2001 chevy silverado have more power and run better for little to no cost?
i have a 2001 chevy silverado z71 off road and i want it to run better and have more power with out alot of cost
A: Switch to a lighter weight oil to decrease drag inside your engine. Try a straight 20W oil. By adding an oil cooler take-off to your oil filter system ( a bolt on part is on the shelf at your chevy dealer. it goes between the filter and the block) and running the lines to your radiator's AT cooling system you can run a very light weight oil in your engine with out harm to your bearings and it will actually help your engine run cooler in warm weather. The next step in performance comes with headers. A bolt on part(s) that can increase your horse power by as much as 50%, it is the cheapest, and yet biggest increase in power you can get for your hard earned dollar by far.
