Q: BMW X3 - I've changed oil of my car but the "indicator" when I start the engine still asks me to "service oil"?
Basically I've flushed out the old oil and poured in new oil into the engine BMW X3 2.5i. When I start the ignition, a beeping sound still occurs on the electronic display where the speedometer is. It displays Service Oil. How do I remove this display and get rid of the beeping sound?
A: very modern cars have sensors for practically every stupid thing. Even if you move the air filter out and replace it immediately, it trips a sensor
The fuel, air, and oil systems are highly sensored and monitored. the big brother government doesn't want the average person driver to mess with these highly designed systems. They want you to have to go to the dealership and spend megabucks to have them change the oil. Then they use their computers to reset the car's computer, which resets the oil timing sensor.
Since you've changed the oil yourself, the car still shows the indicator light because car hasn't been hooked up to a mechanic's computer so it can reset the oil timing sensor.
So either take to dealer to have them reset it, or sometimes independent mechanics/garages can read the car's computer and reset it for you, thereby not having to pay megabucks at dealer.
Q: How do I setup bluetooth for my phone in my 2006 BMW x3?
I have a 2006 BMW x3 and I would like to setup my phone to the cars bluetooth. However, I do not know how to do this. I referred to the manual, but it doesnt have clear instructions so I couldnt get it to work. A step by step list of instructions would be nice.
A: i dont have an instructions link, but i can tell you step by step:
#1. turn on your phone
#2. enter your phones bluetooth menu and select 'bluetooth search' function
#3. the device name will pop up and tell you the last 7 digits of your vehicles vin number
#4. it will then ask you to enter the 4 digit number in the manual (its on a seperate paper)
and then click enter, and youre set to go.
if you dont have the 4 digit code, the only thing you can do is get it from the dealer you bought it from.
Q: Is a BMW X3 a good car for a college student?
I really like it. I also like the Lexus RX330. My parents have a lexus and have had great luck with it. Ive owned a lexus before and loved it.(rest in pieces) I love the way a BMW X3 looks. Safety features is a big one for me. Which would you go for?
The oldest I will go is 2004. I don't want an old car.
A: The Lexus RX330, if I had the money--which I don't.
Q: How do I set the clock on permanent display in BMW X3?
I know that a combination ofbuttons allows the permanent display of the time in the radio display. ( I have had 3 BMW's previously) . The X3 handbook does not describe the combination.
A: Oh "clock"! Sorry I completely misread the question.
Q: Can blackberry pearl pair with bmw x3's bluetooth feature?
I have a 2006 bmw x3, and cannot pair my blackberry pearl with it. I get to the point where I input the four digit code and it says unable to pair.
A: i don't see why not. as to why it doesn't pair, have you checked if your code is correct? common pairing codes are 0000 and 1234. try typing it in via the keypad. and if it still doesn't work, it could be incompatibility issues.
bluetooth has a few versions. V1.0, V1.1, and now V2.0. i remember one of my V2.0 phones not being able to pair with my V1.1 headset. so that could be a problem.
the best thing is to send the car into BMW's workshop and ask for a firmware upgrade. explain to them the problem and see if you can skirt the fee issue for a firmware upgrade.
Q: How can I make my BMW X3 better?
I just got a 2004 BMW X3 2.5i and I wanted to know what I could do to it. I have about 2,000 dollars to put into it and I'm not sure what to do. I'm thinking about putting some subs in the back or using the money to buy some 19in rims instead of the 17in they already have. Lemme know if anyone has some good ideas.
A: I wouldn't do anything performance wise - the 2.5's aren't very powerful, and with only 2000 dollars you probably won't even get up to the stock power of the 3.0.
I wouldn't get enormous wheels either, that will just make it even slower. Unsprung weight is a real killer on performance. I'm also not a fan of stupid TV's in the headrests - why pay for something that YOU can't see? The people driving behind you don't need to watch your tv.
Personally, I'd spend it on something other than the car. There's really not a whole lot you can start and finish with $2k that will be worthwhile. Bodywork is expensive, turbo's are expensive, and so on. Subwoofers will just make things rattle - one of my friends broke his bumper mounts with his, it's not fun.
Go to www.bavauto.com and look around there if you really want to spend money on the car. The stuff they sell is generally pretty classy. Avoid e-bay at all costs.
Q: How do you change CDs in a 2004 bmw x3?
I just got a used 2004 bmw x3 and don't know how to change CDs. What do I have to push or does it just hold one?
A: The in-dash CD is a single disc. Press the eject button (a triangle) to get the CD out. New ones load as you insert them into the slot.
There was also an optional trunk-mounted CD changer available for the car, which uses a magazine to hold 6 CD's. You can find it at your dealer, or at online BMW parts sources.

Q: i have a 2004 bmw x3 and was wondering what the best, easiest way was to listen to an iPod?
easiest way to connect an iPod to listen in 2004 BMW x3, dont really want to take it to the dealership to get something installed, but if i have to then so be it.
where could i find this transmitter?
A: If you are handy, you can buy an aux adaptor from Circuit City.
Look for the brand USA-Spec. The model is DF-BMW. Circuit City is having a clearance for just $10.
When you go to a Circuit City, and if they don't have it, ask them to check on their computer to locate one for you.
This little box plugs in to your CD changer (prewire) harness at the back. If you already have a changer, you'll need to disconnect it.
This unit offers 2 separate aux inputs. Your radio will see it as if it is a CD changer. The 2 inputs are listed on your display as CD 6-01 and CD 6-02. You can even switch between them using your steering wheel controls.
Next, all you need to do is to run a long RCA cable up front, then attach a Y-cable to the RCA cable using a coupler. Run the Y cable somewhere near your center console; where your iPod will be sitting, and you're all set!
The 2 sets of Y cables, couplers and 20ft RCAs costs about $20 altogether from Fry's Electronics. Radio Shack sells it for a lot more!
Here's a picture, specs, and regular retail price from an online store... but don't buy it here. Circuit City is much cheaper!

FM transmitters may be quick to set up, but it is clumsy and offers mediocre audio performance as it struggles to overcome stronger radio stations' signals. It also clutters up your car.
Q: BMW X3 possibility to change suspensions?
I have just gotten a used BMW X3 (2005), and even though it does not have the sports package, its suspensions are very stiff. This wouldn't normally bother me, but it's the first time I actually get sick while driving. Anyway, my question is if anyone knows whether it is possible to put softer suspensions on there, and what the considerations might be. Thanks!
A: Anything is possible, but it would be VERY expensive, as BMW people are looking for improved handling not softer ride - meaning that it would be a full custom project.
Your best bet is to trade it for something softer like a Mercedes. Avoid the Acura RDX - it is stiffer too, but a MDX would probably suit you. A Lexus RX would be another choice.

I need an extra seat in my X3 but have negative equity so can't change it yet. Does anyone know of a company who can fit an additional seat in the boot?

Q: How reliable is the BMW X3 in general?
I told my colleagues that I'm thinking of getting an X3. All of them immediately told me not to citing examples of 3 people we know that had lots of problem with their Bimmers in general and the number of times they had to bring them in for service. I'm really spooked so I'm actually considering the Mercedes ML350. What do you guys think?
A: The X3 is not a comparable model to the ML. This spring, MB will have its X3 fighter ready for sale- the GLK 280/350. This model is said to take on the driving dynamics of the BMW which of course, is excellent for a small SUV. However, BMW achieves this excellent handling through very tight suspension movements, much like a race car, which interferes with comfort and having driven one myself over an extended period of time, can say it is not only harsh to the extent your insides will hurt but in major metropolitan areas where winter frost heaves the roads, downright teeth shattering. I believe the GLK will be less harsh.
If you were my personal friend, I would also advise you to avoid both BMW and Mercedes if you want to have a reliable vehicle that is easy to own- BMW's free maintenance plan ends for all purchases made after Jan 2008 and if you own one, like all German manufacturers, it will be very expensive to own.
The data compiled from a consumer affairs database shows the reliability records of the X3 are worse than the X5- mostly problems stemming from electronics but also from assembly. (Interestingly, the X3 is outsouced by BMW to an Austrian firm, which in my opinion should not be building vehicles.)
Additionally, for a small SUV, it should average better than 14 MPG (average MPG of owners from database) and needs to be far more reliable. I would highly recommend the Acura RDX, Infiniti EX350, or the new 2009 Cadillac LRX (the smaller version of the SRX). The Acura and Infiniti easily outperform the X3 and ML by far in performance and reliability. Good luck...
