Q: Is maintaining a BMW more expensive than an American vehicle?
Im looking into buying a BMW x5 and am wondering if simple things such as oil changes, tune ups, and those types of things are more expensive than on another vehicle, and by how much.Thank you.
A: generally shop rates are at the top of the scale, so basically
1 up to 2X the shop rates for American product, and Japanese product.
Parts are similiarly very expensive.
The BMW is a decent car, little weak on performance end but good handler, however dependability ratings are so-so, therefore if the car you are considering is off warranty or this is a long term purchase there is no question maintenance and repairs will be much higher....and likely repairs more frequent.

Q: How easy is it to install lights on a bmw 318is?
I'ne just ordered replacement headlamps,taillights,repeaters and indicators for my '99 bmw 318is.
How easy would it be to install them and roughly how much would it cost to have it done professionally?
A: Headlights are the hardest... after you do it, it's easy. There are 5 screws to take out, 3 on top, 2 on the bottom. Take out your corner light first, go in from behind, there is a little tab that you get with a screw driver and it pops right out. Be really carefull putting it back in, the plastic pin breaks easily.
side markers pop out when you push them back.
Tail lights are easy too, several bolts behind them and they come right out.
Q: Why does my BMW shudder when I accelerate from a dead stop or a roll-on below 5 mph?
My 1998 BMW 328i shudders slightly when I accelerate from a dead stop or when I accelerate from a roll below 5 mph. The shuddering starts at around 5 mph and between 1700 and 2200 rpm. The shuddering feels as if it is coming from the rear passenger wheel and it abates once I've passed 10 mph.
A: could it be a faulty spark plug ,wire in a dark place open engine compartment to see if you can see arching between spark plug wires

Q: How does the maintenance differ on a BMW than on a Ford or GM?
I want to buy a 1997 BMW 318i but I am a home mechanic and have no trouble working on my Ford's or GM's. I am wondering what the difference is and if i could work on my own BMW. I don't want to do any major motor work just the basics. Example: Starter, Oil changes, Alternator, Tune up. What are some of the differences or obsticals i can come to expect. Is it an easy transition?
A: there really isn't much difference in things like this ,the BMW may cost you less ,because parts seem to last longer on them,oil changes aren't any more,lube jobs aren't either,for the most part of it one wont cost much more than a regular car,prices of parts are high right now for any car made,these just cost a little more that's all,but they also last a lot longer,so in the long run you may come out cheaper,a lot of people have,those are good cars,but like any other car made they do need maintenance work once in a while,it wont break you up though,good luck with it.

Q: What is the resistance on original speakers in a 1994 bmw 540i?
What is the resistance typically found on the speakers of an e34(1990-1995) bmw 540i? What are the ohms?I got a car radio system(just the stereo no speakers) and I believed I wired it correctly but the speakers aren't working. Thanks in advance for your help.
A: most are 4 ohms but some in the doors are 2 ohms

Q: How do I listen to my mp3 player through a BMW 320i?
I recently bought a BMW 320i (55 plate) and somebody told me that I could listen to my mp3 through the car's speakers. I've found a sort of plug socket in the middle glove compartment that looks as if it should be a connection but theres no way of connecting it to my mp3. Is there some sort of attatchment I need to buy, or is there some other problem?
A: There are a few ways to do this. I don't know what "sort of plug socket" you are talking about, because I don't have nearly enough money to buy a BMW.
But one thing you could do is buy one of those radio transmitters. One end goes into your 9v dash hole and the other into your headphone jack and then it plays through your radio.
Another thing you could do is buy an aftermarket head unit. You can get a nice one for $400-700. These have direct inputs for your mp3 device.

A: There really isn't a "tune up" so to speak.
However, you can request the dealer to perform an "Inspection II" which is the most complete "service" done by BMW dealers typically at every 60,000 miles or 48 months.

Note: Inspection II is an expensive service, can cost up to $900. But it varies from dealer to dealer.
Q: How much I could negotiate down if I want a 2005 bmw 330ci?
Im planning to buy a used bmw. The kbb is marked as 28000 to 30000. I saw one for around 28000 at dealship, what the bottom line could be? Is it possible to get it for 26000 out of door?
A: yes it may be possible to do that.
UNDERSTAND do not go into the dealership talking kbb especially if you have a trade because we dont use kbb unless a customer wants to then we also use kbb to value their trade which usallay means it gets cut in half.
just tell the salesman that you want that car and have 26k to spend out the door if they balk get up and walk.they will call you back trust me
Q: What is the average yearly maintenance cost for a Lexus or BMW?
Any Lexus or BMW owners who can tell me how much they spend per year on maintenance costs? I can't decide which brand to buy out of the 2. This is a huge factor.

A: BMW is offering maintenance on new BMW's, but I'm not sure about their certifieds. The Maintenace is supposed to be all routine up to 50k miles I think.

Was wondering about possible aftermarket stereos to install in an 02 BMW 325 that just doesn't look totally out of place with the rest of the car something that flows with the layout of the dash and all. Thanks
not needing something with gps or dvd playback something basic simple but could play iphone or ipod and just goes the the layout. Something inexpensive.

JVC is my favorite because the options it has, and trust me, it sounds incredible!

Q: How long will a new 2009 BMW 335i last before you have to replace parts?
My friends have been trying to talk me out of a BMW. People say that BMW's are bad because when they break down it is very expensive to fix.
So I was wondering, how reliable is a brand new BMW or more specifically how reliable is a brand new BMW 335i?

A: If the car is maintained then no worries. The engine is bullet proof.
